Why is high-quality 4-year-old kindergarten important?
Pre-k programs, such as Superior Community Preschool, benefit children, their families, and their communities. From improved academic outcomes to the economic savings to schools and states, research has shown that the benefits of high-quality pre-k are irrefutable.
The community approach
allows families options in providing quality care and education to all 4-year-olds, regardless of ability or family income. The community approach preserves the health of the child care system in the community while generating additional state funds for the community to educate 4-year-olds. It provides parents with options of preschool in a variety of settings.
A Family Guide
Enrollment
SCP is available to all children who are 4-years-old on or before September 1st who live within the School District Of Superior. Although families are encouraged to participate in the full school year of programming, enrollment may begin at any time during the year. Children are enrolled in SCP for one year prior to Kindergarten entrance. Site Placement is based on a first come basis. Each family is able to indicate their top three site choices on the registration form. If a family’s first choice is not available they will be contacted by the program coordinator to discuss their options. All families will receive a placement confirmation letter by the end June before school starts.

- Families may participate in “SCP only” at no charge. However, charges do apply for childcare or other extended services beyond the SCP portion of the day at participating childcare centers and Cathedral school.
- SCP encourages partnerships between the Superior School District and existing early learning programs. SCP partners include: Cathedral School, Family Forum Head Start, New Horizons Children’s Center of Superior, Superior Children’s Center, University Children's Center, YMCA Discovery Center, and Noah’s Ark Daycare.
