Spring Athletics

BASEBALL

The varsity and junior varsity teams are looking for quality student athletes to continue the proud tradition of Spartan baseball. The Spartans are perennial powers in the LSC. Students who possess knowledge and skills in baseball are encouraged to tryout. If you have a desire to learn, work hard, and improve your skills, then the Spartan baseball program is right for you.

*Attendance at tryouts is required to be a part of the team, unless excused due to an injury, illness, or a school sponsored activity. Tryouts often take place during spring break, please plan accordingly.

Grades: 9-12
Number of Participants: 30-36
Practices: Daily, as determined by the coaching staff
Length of Season: Mid-March until the first week or so in June
Types of Activities: 20 game schedule and the WIAA tournament series

BOY'S GOLF

If you take golf seriously but still know how to have fun, you may want to join the SHS boy's golf team. We have a very competitive team that should have a good showing in the LSC and the WIAA playoffs.

GRADES: 9-12
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: 12
PRACTICES: Daily as determined by the coaching staff
LENGTH OF SEASON: Last week of March until the first week of June
TYPES OF ACTIVITIES: A 14 match schedule and the WIAA Tournament series

GIRL'S SOCCER

Join the most popular sport and get your kicks by playing for the Spartan girl's soccer team. Tryouts will be held to determine which players will be members of the varsity and junior varsity teams. This exciting sport may be what you're looking for. The varsity team will play about 22 games. The soccer program is recognized as a Division 1 sport by the WIAA.

GRADES: 9-12
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: 18-20 (no more than 20 on the tournament roster)
PRACTICES: Daily as determined by the coaching staff
LENGTH OF SEASON: Mid-March to the first week of June
TYPES OF ACTIVITIES: Approximately a 14 match schedule and the WIAA Tournament series

GIRL'S SOFTBALL

What a hit you'll make if you become a member of this very exciting game of softball. Fast pitch is growing in popularity in all areas of the state. Dust off the ‘ol glove and spikes and get yourself to the tryouts. You just may wind up as a member of the Spartan softball team.

BOY'S TENNIS

If you love being outdoors and hitting the tennis ball around, you may find this activity to your liking. Test your serving and volley skills with your classmates at the nets at SHS, UWS, and Barker's Island. Who knows, you may be the next Pete Samprass of SHS.

BOY'S TRACK

Run your fastest, jump your highest, and throw the shot and the discus as far as you can. Track has long been one of the most popular participating activities at SSHS. If you are a determined person who likes to set personal goals with your athletic ability, join the tracksters.

GIRL'S TRACK

If you enjoy spending time outdoors, competing with peers, and building up your cardiovascular system, track could be your sport. If running isn't your speed, field events like the long jump, discus throw, and the shot put await your efforts. Track is in the spring, come and soak up the sun.

CHEERLEADING AND POM PONS

What would high school activities be like without the supporting cast of the cheerleading squads? These spirit leaders are some of the finest athletes the school produces year in and year out. There are many long hours of very intense practice sessions and yet the rewards are great as many of our squads earn outstanding cheerleading honors throughout the year. If you enjoy being in front of a crowd and like being a boisterous leader, try-out for one of the squads listed below.
